Overseas 02:26
You say All is well and all is fine And I maintain It may be well past the time To flee Overseas Come try This departure, that direction No goodbye No layover, no connection With me Overseas Neither suitcase nor a plan Street signs we don’t understand Like the ones on Instagram This trap Is contingent on location Strange maps Unfamiliar transit stations We’ll be Overseas Overseas

The light bounces off of the airport floor A tower reflects in the swinging glass door It’s everything just like before They’re back in town again Eyes cast down again now I’m caught in a carousel of cars It’s hot and confusing behind this bar It’s all gone a little bit far They’re running around again Upside-down again Streetlights in the air Clipboard questionnaire Everyone ranting and raving But nothing coming from their lips and The runes and hieroglyphs Make me wonder if Any of this is worth saving And Jacques Tati is standing hands on hips And I can’t make out just what they say I’m walking this corridor all day American tourists in grey She’s in that gown again I’m the clown again now And I’ve given over my last red cent On visions of glass and dreams of cement And I don’t know where it all went It’s chairs with crowns again Verbs and nouns again My own Twin Cities and The prime meridian Running into each other A lie to launch a thousand ships and I sometimes get the sense It might be me against Everyone else and his brother And Jacques Tati is standing hands on hips Streetlights in the air Clipboard questionnaire Everyone ranting and raving But nothing coming from their lips and The runes and hieroglyphs Make me wonder if Any of this is worth saving And Jacques Tati is standing hands on hips

Gustav Flies 03:23
Gustav was a man of many dreams And he dreamt them for so long He prayed to reach the sky as brother Alexander But there he didn’t quite belong While hammering some boards He called his faith a fraud And the town was set a-cry They put Gustav away For thirty years he stayed And read and dreamed of the skies Someday you’ll see Him pedal down that mound And break all the ties that kept him so Earthbound His cell it got unlocked He found a nice workshop Umbrellas, chains, and harnesses and cogs The local papers called him Icarus of Lautertal But when he finally flew There was no one there at all He got his due His inventions they all flew In exhibitions near and far He finally rose above Feeling the world’s love For all of his outsider art Now you can see Him pedal down that mound No one could ever Keep Gustav down Gustav Flies

Hey there with the sad expression Has life been giving you some lemons? And though you try to turn it right You’re sighing at the office And crying at the stoplight And the last time you had a look You were all on tenterhooks No more tricks left in the book Too many kitchens in the cook Making it from dawn to dusk Well sometimes that seems tough enough You do your best to bear it all Through days and days of rainfall It’s Charlie Brown and footballs So go with me, what do you say? ‘Cause I know a better way Put the Nick Drake tape away And come outside and be OK Come on, run, let’s have fun Sugar-spun It’s a super-sunny summer day Skip town, lose the frown Windows down It’s a super-sunny summer day Can’t take it anymore? Get yourself right up and off of the floor Out the door, candy store It’s a super-sunny summer day The sun is out for all to see Like a sparkly tangerine Shining just for you and me Did you know it’s all for free? It’s a sky-blue rendezvous Good for you It’s a super-sunny summer day A big, lit first-aid kit Tag you’re it It’s a super-sunny summer day And I’ll be by your side ‘Til I see the sunlight deep in your eyes Clouds goodbye, my oh my It’s a super-sunny summer day

So maybe we covet All of each other’s mistakes and I dearly wanted to be one Of yours So I started seeing someone (In my hallucinations) And I dearly wanted to have one Of yours (Break) Don’t take me for the fool That I thought I was Cause we both just dearly wanted to have some Of ours And my favorite meteor just Flew across the sky And we all wanted to see one Of ours CHORUS Everything is grey If you want it that way Don’t put me in your zone of uncertainty Don’t spread the blasphemy The worlds largest Lazy Susan Couldn’t turn you It doesn’t take chemistry To break us in two With a Public domain apology Guitar break Chorus

Wake up in the morning There’s a snap around the place Kick off the daily ignoring Of what’s just as plain as the nose on your face Uh huh huh And everyone around here Lets it go without a fight Well wish I may, wish I might Uh huh huh The Bay City Rollers had it right It’s Saturday forever now It’s Saturday forever now I make no promises About what I will or won’t do I make no promises But I have no firm schedule I got some trouble you can borrow I’m gonna tell you where to go I’m not believing in tomorrow Wo wo wo Never never never never never no It’s Saturday forever now It’s Saturday forever now I make no promises About what I will or won’t do I make no promises But I have no firm schedule

I’m sitting in the plastic booth Where they signed the armistice After oh so many years It’s all blown up with a kiss So just stop I don’t know the number of tops We have to unencumber And wait for your ship to come in It was a shot in the dark You made your mark Now leave me be I’ve worn myself out On the treadmill of possibilities My favorite wrong number text said You sure look good in these So just cop To your little plan and Prop up your next straw man And get yourself out of your cage
9.
They never scream What they mean They all seem Blank and unexpressive And for some That seems dumb But where I’m from We play passive-aggressive You don’t like my act, I see you display it I know for a fact you’re not gonna say it The withering look would give me the hook And throw me the book You’re scowling from ear to ear And seeing red But nothing you say will give that away You say it’s OK And so I will choose to hear That being said You don’t like my act, I see you display it I know for a fact you’re not gonna say it I know for a fact you’re not gonna say it The glare terrifies, the gestures imply The sighs and side-eye And every nonverbal clue Fills me with dread But nothing proclaimed impugns or inflames Or chastens or shames I guess it’ll have to do That being said If glances could kill you’d do it with skill And send me the bill Tear me from head to toe And A to zed But nothing you speak sounds like a critique Direct or oblique So I’m just gonna go With that being said That being said That being said

Gary went out for a walk Seeking inspiration in the sky Trying to nail down melodies And it appeared to him I guess straight from the big guy Don’t hesitate Don’t make them wait Life is already complicated But the answer is EIGHT

Important 02:13
Can I get a word in? May I have the floor? There’s something you don’t know And I’m gonna tell you And I’m gonna bore you As you’re walking out the door Do you want some syllables? Come sample my assortment Do you have some extra time? Then I seek your endorsement I am your unnecessary personal informant I have nothing important to say But I feel like saying something important I like what you’re saying But if you don’t mind I think you’re going to find I can help you understand It might take a while but then I have lots and lots of time What I lack in substance I can make up in adornment Not sure what I’m saying But it’s raining down in torrents Don’t mind me but can’t you see I’m needing reinforcement I have nothing important to say but I feel like saying something important

How we gonna get this done We’re never sure at the start We’ve got lots of projects to attack And fill out all the parts So let’s stop treating it so preciously Our first steps may be incredibly bad, But grab a hold We’ve got things to mold, and move now Its gonna be a piece of cake So let's see what we can make We said every year would be fun We were young and so fearless But soon July will be done And we invite you in guests You don’t have to be a couple Einsteins To write things down That sometimes, rhyme Keep the beat lean Second verse tambourine, now You don’t have to be a Pavarotti To try to a sing a tune that must be free Here we go The closing chorus crescendo comes now And its gonna be a piece of cake So let's see what we can make Outro chorus now

about

(North Carolina / Minnesota) A two-person, long-distance band whose members met in 2019 and have since spoken directly only twice. We draw on influences we love from power pop, jangle pop, chamber pop with the occasional foray into things heavier. We take songwriting inspiration from and enjoy wordplay around obscure interests. We like it when we get called “catchy,” and our favorite reviewer word used to describe us so far is “beguiling.” Our third full-length album EIGHT releases on July 29, 2022.
